Cost of learning
to dive
Ocean Diver training:
7 theory lessons
1 theory exam
5 (or more) pool sessions
5 open water dives.
Training in a club takes time as the instructors teach in their free time.
This means training has to be fitted around both your and the instructors'
work commitments. Open water training also depends on the weather.
£255 includes:
Membership of South Tyneside BSAC for 1 year
Membership of BSAC for 1 year
Diving manual
Student notes
Pool training
Use of equipment for pool training
Air for pool training
You then need to buy your own equipment for the open water dives

You can find cheaper deals if you shop around or buy second hand.
Cost of open water
training
£2 for each air fill - from the club, dive shops charge more.
The weather determines where we can go.
For example shore diving locally - St Mary's or Roker pier costs very
little.
Local boat dives cost about £10 - 15 depending on petrol used.
St Abbs £20 plus petrol and carparking
Capernwray £15 to join (lifetime membership) plus £10 each
time plus petrol
Boats in most other places are at least £30 - 40 per day plus air,
food, accommodation and petrol to get there.
